Discover the ancient art of Ikat weaving. Ikat is a dye-resist process in which skeins of white cotton are tied at pre-determined intervals and then dipped into an indigo dye bath. Visit the homes of artisans Maya Traditions works with and get a unique insight in to their lives. Learn about how Maya Traditions scholarships have changed the lives of the children of these amazing artisans. (Transport - boat)
Chuacruz:
This group of twenty two Kaqchikel Maya women is made up of widows and their daughters who came together to earn a living after the violence of the 1980´s. In November of 2002 this group realized their long term goal of building their own cooperative center. Learn more about their struggle to generate income and provide for their children as this group tells of the amazing achievements they have had in bettering their lives. (Transport - bus)
