On the way to the town of Panajachel (a 3 hour ride from Antigua) we will stop at the Ma
ya archaeological site of Iximche, explore the site and museum, and enjoy a picnic lunch.  Iximché was the capital of the Maya Kaqchikel nation during the Post classic period and was the settlement of Guatemala’s first Capital City.  Explorations, excavations, and restoration of the site began in 1960 and continue to date.  Many structures are still covered by lush vegetation. Afterwards we will continue on the road making a brief stop at the Mirador of San Jorge, overlooking Lake Atitlan,  before arriving to settle in the town of Panajachel.
