Maya Cosmovision Package around Lake Atitlan – 4 days
Immersive workshop Program:
DAY 1: MAYA COSMOVISION & TRADITIONAL MEDICINE
- Learn about Maya Culture (Cosmovision, Maya Calendar, Traditional Medicine etc.)
- Visit Maya Traditions’ Organic Medicinal Plant Garden in Panajachel
- Attend a workshop about Traditional Maya Medicine with a local Healer
- Have a short break with a nice Organic Herbal Tea cooked with fresh plants from the Garden
- Be part of a Maya Ceremony
DAY 2: WELL-BEING
- Work in the Medicinal Plant Garden and learn from our gardeners how to maintain an organic garden
- Attend a workshop and learn how to make homemade massage oils and soaps
- Meet with a Maya Healer and Spiritual Guide and learn about their gift and how they use medicinal plants and herbs to prevent and cure common illnesses
- Participate in a Maya Fire Ceremony
DAY 3: USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES IN DAILY LIFE
- Learn more about the significance of corn in Maya Culture
- Visit a mill and prepare tortillas or tamalitos
- Walk to the perched village of Patanatic, one of the best viewpoints of Panajachel and the lake (30 minutes steep walk)
- Meet with the women for a picnic of traditional dishes and share the tortillas (tamalitos) you cooked
- Watch and try to weave baskets from pine needles
DAY 4: NATURAL DYEING
- Cross the stunning Lake Atitlan to get to San Juan la Laguna and meet with a group of weavers/span>
- Watch a natural dyeing demonstration /span>/span>
- handwarp yarn into balls
- stretch the threads around the warping board to create the design
- ikat tying demonstration
- liso backstrap weaving demonstration
