I really enjoyed learning about the process of backstrap weaving from start to finish and gained a better understanding of the work that the artisans do every day. I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone.
During this full one day class, you will have the opportunity to learn the basics of backstrap weaving and will begin to weave a small scarf. One of our artisans will guide you through the process, with Maya Traditions’ staff helping when needed. Lunch included.
During this five day class, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your skills in backstrap weaving and complete your own scarf. You will work alongside the same artisan for the entirety of the class and will learn not only about backstrap weaving, but also about the artisan and her culture. Lunch included.
During this ten day class, you will have the ability to learn about the two styles of backstrap weaving “liso” and “bordado”. Our artisan will teach you to weave a scarf as well as a more intricate brocade style tapestry. Lunch included.
